Rocking Our Socks To Commemorate National Down Syndrome Day

The Beekman Group recognises the importance of involving employees in various Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives, and on the 20th of October 2022, we showed our support on National Down Syndrome Day.

The Group sponsored the cost of the stickers for all the staff at Head Office and the Resorts. In turn, staff members turned out to “rock their socks” and sported the National Down Syndrome Day stickers on their shirts in order to raise awareness and promote the inclusivity of people living with Down syndrome.

Down syndrome is a genetic disorder as a result of an extra copy of chromosome 21, which occurs during cell formation during pregnancy. In spite of the extra genetic material resulting in developmental changes and physical characteristics associated with this disorder, children and adults living with Down syndrome are no different from any other person and have their own abilities, strengths, and personalities. It is for this reason that this day aims to reduce, with the hope of eliminating, discrimination against individuals with Down syndrome.

As always, the Beekman Group is extremely proud to participate in worthy causes that are critical to the well-being of not only our own community but also the people of our country as a whole. If you would like more information on how you can support this important cause, you can contact Down Syndrome South Africa (DSSA) by emailing dssaoffice@icon.co.za or calling 072 652 2377.
