The Beekman Group once again supported World Down Syndrome Day which is globally observed every year. The 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome. This global awareness day has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.
Individuals around the world raise awareness for Down’s Syndrome Day by ‘rocking their socks’. The Beekman Group staff members, both at head office and across our resorts, accepted the challenge by wearing their craziest socks on Friday 20 March as well as sporting the WDSD stickers on their shirts. The Group also donated R5 000 to the Down Syndrome Association.
