OUR GO GREEN INITIATIVES At the Beekman Group, we choose to manage the “triple bottom line”. This means that we focus, not only on the financial, but also the social and environmental impacts of our business. The Beekman Group’s Go Green initiative has always driven sustainable projects to ensure that our planet does not suffer and will stay resilient for future generations. In recent years we’ve been particularly proactive in introducing waste and pollution reduction measures across our business. Beginning small, by driving a recycling program at our head office and resorts, to innovating paperless, technological solutions in our business processes and customer acquisition methods, that have reduced the Group’s reliance on paper by several tonnes. For more information on our Go Green activities visit the Go Green page under “BEEKMAN CARES” on www.beekmangroup.com ABOUT THE HOLIDAY CLUB www.theholidayclub.co.za | Our Go Green Initiatives 22 We launched a highly successful Go Digital drive in 2015, in which we encouraged Members to switch to receiving a digital version of their Private Edition magazine, rather than the printed hardcopy. For every digital switch out Members made, we committed to planting something green at our resorts, which has since resulted in the planting of OVER 6 600 PLANTS! Go Digital Drive It’s been a decade since we started our quest to be carbon neutral and our projects have included recycling efforts, with our recycling depots on each floor being sorted daily. In 2023, our head office made a significant step towards sustainability by installing 333 solar panels , which generate real-time power for the entire building. The solar panels produce up to 181.44 kWp of sustainable power for our building, ensuring a reliable and renewable source of energy for our operations when the weather is favourable. The next phase of our green evolutionwill be the installation of energy-storing solar batteries to save and distribute power for the times when the weather isn’t optimal. So far, the use of solar panels has greatly reduced the building’s reliance on non-renewable sources of energy. Rainwater harvesting at Head Office has also been a successful project, where holding tanks of 80 000L of rain water feed the bathrooms (toilets and hand basins). These are just some of the measures we’ve taken, in addition to collaborating with local vendors and suppliers, to reduce our impact on the environment in an effort to be carbon neutral. Our Head Office is Green We began the roll out of sustainability practices at our resorts in 2012 and since then have kept our promise of promoting a healthier environment. So far, we have installed solar power generation technology at Dolphin View Cabanas, and solar farms at four of our larger resorts; Dikhololo, The Kingdom Resort, Cayley Lodge and Kiara Lodge, which collectively generate over 1.6million kWh of energy annually. In addition to themany ways we conserve electrical energy, we’ve alsobuiltextensivehydro-purificationand“wastewater”recycling infrastructure at The Kingdom Resort, Waterberg Game Park, and Dikhololo, which collectively treat and repurpose an estimated 480 000 litres of waste-water per day. We use or install: Gas stoves and geysers whenever possible. Bio products in our laundry and for cleaning our resorts. Cellulose straws and cardboard takeaway boxes at our Food and Beverage outlets. Use of local suppliers to reduce the carbon footprints of goods. Energy-saving LED lights throughout our properties. Our Resorts are Greener Additionally
