The Destination
Geologically, the area is world famous. A structure, termed
the "Pilanesberg National Park Alkaline Ring Complex" was
formed by volcanic eruptions some 1 200 million years ago.
Apart from its unique size, shape and rock types, the volcanic
origin and resultant weathering of the extinct crater has
resulted in a wide variety of landscapes.
This provides some of the most spectacular scenery in
Southern Africa. It also provides a wide range of habitats for
game animals in a malaria-free environment. The
Pilanesberg National Park covers 55 000 hectares and is the
fourth largest game reserve in southern Africa.
The park is home to lion, leopard, black and white rhino,
elephant and buffalo - Africa's "Big Five", as well as brown
hyena, cheetah, crocodile and even sable. Pilanesberg is roughly a 2 hour drive from Johannesburg
and Pretoria. The airport has scheduled flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town. The Kingdom is
situated approximately 2.5km from the entrance to the Sun City complex.
