Becoming Involved
St. Martin de Porres Comprehensive School, based
in Port Shepstone, is a school for the deaf, physically
and mentally challenged. With our assistance ten pupils
recently performed at the Smile Child Festival in Turkey.
This was a true highlight for the children, none of whom
had been outside Port Shepstone, let alone South Africa.
We also ensure that any computers, office furniture,
supplies and fittings no longer required are donated to
our local charities and schools like St. Martin’s.

Developing New Talent
We also sponsor the Southern KZN Bodyboarding
Development Clinics that are run every month.
The Group pays for the instructors and transports the kids
from Gamalakhe, a deprived rural community, to the
beach. Professional instructors give the kid training on
water safety, understanding the ocean and of course
giving them the thrill of riding the waves. Nomad Bodyboarding,
a manufacturer of bodyboards,
generously supplies the equipment. Bodyboarding is fun
and easy to get into; and serves as a very healthy,
positive distraction from all the negative influences kids face today.

Aiming For A Brighter Future
We are especially proud our association with the
Themba Club. This is an organisation on the KwaZulu
Natal South Coast, working with street children. Seeing
a need to assist the growing number of children on the
streets of the local towns, a soup kitchen was set up
providing a hot meal once a day. With 12 boys and
hearts overflowing with love, compassion and naïve
innocence, the Themba Club was born. Since inception
the club has evolved, always driven by the needs of the
children. A childcare worker was employed, daily
activities arranged and temporary accommodation
was set up. The Themba Club shelter was then established
25kms outside of Margate on the border of
KwaNzimakwe, a rural area where the boys attend the
local school. This is where we come in.
In August 2005
we purchased a motor vehicle to transport the children to school and back; and we continue to
contribute towards the running costs of the vehicle. We also assist towards the salary of an outreach
worker who tries to reunite these children with their families or, if that is not possible, to ensure
that these children are provided with a safe environment and schooling.

Making A Dream Come True
Reach for a Dream is an organisation which helps
realise the dreams of children living with life-threatening
illness. Being diagnosed with such an illness is terrifying
for anyone, but when a child is involved, the whole
family is affected and lives are irrevocably changed.
Having a dream come true relieves some of the stress
placed on family members and can be uplifting enough
to give the child the will to carry on the battle to survive.
The practical benefits last long after the event itself.
Many of these children dream about seeing the ocean
for the first time, enjoying helicopter rides or visiting a
game farm to see the animals up close. Although these
seem like huge dreams in the eyes of a child, a lot of
these are simple to arrange. We aim to assist in making
one child’s dream come true every month.

Showing Our Solidarity
To show our support for Cancer survivors, we illuminate
our head office building in pink every October in
association with Reach for Recovery in Port Shepstone.
This group of ladies (all cancer survivors
themselves) help other ladies who have survived breast
cancer. We have also contributed by housing a few of
the "shave-a-thon's"at our head office and sponsoring
some of our staff to show their support by either
shaving their heads or by going green!

Not forgetting the animals
We are also in the process of assisting our local Lower
South Coast SPCA with the renovation of their kennels.
Being so close to the sea, rust is a problem and they
need to replace most of the kennel gates in order to
ensure the safety of the animals.
